PM4 - 4 operators FM synth
Panzertank PM4 is a virtual phase modulation synth very much like the famous FM synthesizers.

It has four sinus operators (oscillators) with individual APDSR envelopes, detune and velocity sensitivity. There are six schemes or algorithms to construct the sound. The slider in upper-left corner named DEPTH  controls the overall amount of Phase Modulation so if this is set to zero, only a sine wave is heard.

Beauty in simplicity. This is my number 1 synth for introducing people to FM. There are only 4 operators, each operator's parameters are vertically lined up (making it easier to visualize what's going on), and schematics for each algorithm (the different routing configurations between operators) are right on the panel for quick reference. Send it to anyone who says they're having trouble learning FM. Also, everything that makes it good for beginners, makes it fast for affluent FM users. It's really quick for banging out FM sounds.

Unfairly maligned! Nice little synth for getting some texture quickly. The long envelopes are very useful.

I can't really compose without this thing anymore. For anyone who hasn't used it it creates some really solid, clean sounds. There's nothing else quite like it.

All of "land of cockaignes" vsts were extremely remarkable as they came out, and I used them all a lot. Morpheus was my first favourite, but this one grew on me. I still can't believe these marvels are and were freeware, I donated a lot to freeware-developers, but he or she did not even ask for donations. Lovely to get the PM4 back :).
